Rain, Rain, Go Away

The time was 8:03 PM. The place was Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

I staggered down the front steps of my house, bound for the local CVS, after approximately seven hours of torturous, tiring, terrible...cabin fever.

It all started out sunny. In fact, I'd taken a lovely walk with my dad in the morning under fluffy white clouds. But in the time it took for me to change into a bathing suit and slather some zinc oxide on my sunburned nose, the blue sky was blotted out by angry black thunderclouds. Not five minutes later, the heavens opened up and the torrential rain, well, attacked. For seven hours.

Fast-forward to the present: Finally, I was free to seek amusement outside my home. I had read all that I could read, I had checked Facebook more times than I thought humanly possible, and I had watched the History Channel for at least three hours. I needed to get out. I was in pursuit of something - anything - to cure my boredom. Nail polish, a coloring book, a crossword puzzle, anything.

You may think it never rains in the paradise known as the Jersey shore - and most of the time, you would be right. But the operative words are "most of the time" - once in a blue  moon, it does rain on cloud nine. And when it rains here, there is absolutely nothing to do.

The amusement parks shut down.
The beach evacuates faster than a speeding bullet.
And worst of all, the streets flood.

The detritus of ages - sand, clumps of dune grass, wayward children - float by at alarming speeds. I spotted two intrepid young gentlemen kayaking by my house. Anything to make the time go faster, I guess.

So what's a bored shoobie to do? Blog, I suppose.
